(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Each and every one has the right to higher education and nobody can be allowed to disturb that right, Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Development Eran Wickremeratne said.
He was speaking to media regarding the private university education in Sri Lanka on Monday (15) at the Department of Government Information.
The District quota system was introduced to give access for the most suitable students from all Districts for higher education and those who are not eligible under that system should have a path for higher education, he added.
Some students are leaving to many countries for higher education. Those who are not capable of doing that should be given the freedom to obtain the Non-Governmental or private education by the Government, he said.
Stating that the Government accepts that the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has the right to involve with issues related to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), Deputy Minster Wickremeratne urged that those issues could only be solved through discussions, and not through strikes.
