(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Health Ministry on the advice of Minister of Health, Nutrition, and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratna has taken steps to strengthen treatment services and control Dengue covering the entire island.
According to a release issued by National Dengue Prevention Unit, around 43,000 Dengue patients have been recorded so far this year. Most of the patients were recorded from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Trincomalee, Kurunegala, and Matara.
By looking after the patients well and the steps such as the starting of Intensive Care Units (ICUs), training of personnel, improving the laboratory services has resulted in a reduction of Dengue deaths. In addition, conducting check-ups and reviewing the number of deaths, has helped to improve the quality of the care.
The National Dengue Prevention Unit with the assistance of the Presidential Task Force had inspected 632,542 premises in 2017. In additions, a special dengue prevention program is scheduled to be held on 18th and 19th May in 12 high risk districts and 1,800 teams will be deployed for that.
