Hearing of the petitions against Inland Revenue Bill begins

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The hearing of the Fundamental Rights petitions requesting an order be issued terming the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill unconstitutional commenced before the Supreme Court today (31).

The petitions were filed against the Amendment Bill tabled by the government in Parliament.

The petitions are being heard before a three-member Supreme Court bench comprising justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Murdhu Fernando, and Janak de Silva.

At the commencement of the hearing attorneys representing the petitioners tabled facts in Court.

The petitions were filed by several individuals including the High Court Judges Association, the Sri Lanka Judicial Officers Association challenging the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill.

The Attorney General has been cited as the respondent in the petitions.
