Sri Lanka to witness partial solar eclipse today

(UTV | COLOMBO) –Sri Lanka to witness partial solar eclipse todayA partial solar eclipse will be visible across a swathe of the Northern Hemisphere and also in Sri Lanka today (25), with astronomers warning to be cautious when watching the rare phenomenon.

The partial solar eclipse will be visible in Jaffna between 5.27pm and 5.46pm with the sun expected to cover the moon 8.8%.

The eclipse in Jaffna will be visible for 22 minutes.

The partial solar eclipse in Colombo will be visible from 5.43pm and will reach its peak at 5.49pm with the Sun covering only 1.6% of the moon.

Due to the sunset the eclipse will not be visible after 5.52pm and will be visible only for around nine minutes in Colombo.

The south of the country will not be able to witness the solar eclipse.
