(UTV | COLOMBO) – President Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave for Japan on Monday, 26 September, to attend the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was shot dead on 8 July, aged 67, at a campaign rally for his political party.
Hundreds of dignitaries from Japan and around the world are expected to attend the funeral of Abe which will be held on 27 September.
The State Newspaper News reported that during his visit to Japan, President Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and high-level representatives of the Japanese government.
According to the report, the President is also expected to travel to the Philippines following his visit to Japan.
He is reportedly expected to attend the Asian Development Bank Governors’ meeting to be held in the Philippines on September 29.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to hold talks with Philippines President Bongbong Marcos during his visit.
Concluding his visits to Japan and the Philippines, the President is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka on September 30.
