Only 15-20% private buses in operation today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association says only 15 to 20 percent of private buses will be in operation today.

Chairman of the Union, Gemunu Wijeratne said they are still facing difficulties due to the fuel shortage.

Wijeratne said he expects around 3,000 to 3,500 buses to function during the day.

Gemunu Wijeratne noted that they received fuel through Sri Lanka Transport Board depots in the past two days.

He said however they are not sure that required amount of fuel will be released to private bus operators to function in the next few days.

The Chairman of the Union noted although operators are willing to deploy additional buses, the SLTB has been unable to provide adequate fuel.

He said officials have not managed the fuel stocks they had received and therefore it is affecting the bus industry.
