(UTV | AMERICA) – Paramount and Skydance’s blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” has crossed the coveted $1 billion global box-office mark over the weekend.
It’s the first film of this year to do so, and only the second since the pandemic began – the other being “Spider-Man: No Way Home” which eventually made it to $1.9 billion. “Jurassic World: Dominion” has hit the $750 million mark and could well join them in a few weeks.
That ‘Maverick’ achieved so in the space of one month (31 days), and without the aid of Chinese or Russian box-office is being seen as incredibly impressive.
In its fifth weekend, the film added a further $30.5 million to its domestic tally which now stands at $521 million. It’s also neck-and-neck with “Elvis” for the top spot this weekend with both estimated to gross $30.5 million for the three days – the final numbers (and winner) will be known tomorrow.
