(UTV | COLOMBO) – Health authorities warn that there is a risk of the dengue epidemic spreading in Sri Lanka once again.
A total of 26,622 dengue patients have been identified thus far in the year 2022 while 2,416 dengue cases have been reported during the past eight days.
Director of the National Dengue Control Unit Dr. Sudath Samaraweera noted that the number of dengue patients reported in the Western Province is high.
Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts have been identified as high risk areas for the spread of dengue.
Dr. Samaraweera added that 82 high risk zones have been identified during the analysis of patients reported during the past week.
A special Dengue Eradication Week has been declared from the 15th of June to the 21st of June to reduce the spread of dengue in the Western Province.
