(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union has decided to launch an indefinite strike from midnight over the proposed amendments to the CEB Act.
The CEB Engineers’ Union has vehemently opposed the amendments proposed by Minister of Power Kanchana Wijesekera.
Minister Wijesekera is scheduled to present the amendments in Parliament tomorrow, which will pave the way for the swift approval and implementation of long delayed renewable power projects.
The Minister noted that renewable power projects will be vital for the development of the Power sector and the country’s economy.
He accused the CEB Unions of sabotaging the implementation of several renewable energy projects, which will pave the way for low cost power supply and also ensure uninterrupted power supply for the Sri Lankan public.
On a separate note, Minister of Power Kanchana Wijesekera said he has tabled the committee report into the findings of the blackouts reported on the 29th of November and 3rd of December last year.
The Minister said according to the findings, the committee has indicated that it does not have evidence to rule out pre-planned human interference and therefore has recommended investigating the incidents with the support of IT professionals.
