(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Navy’s second Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV), SLNS ‘Sindurala’ which is being built at the Goa Shipyard Ltd, was officially launched in India. The ceremony to mark this significant occasion was graced by the Secretary Defence Production, Shri AK Gupta as the Chief Guest. Meanwhile, the ceremonial ship launching was marked by the Good Lady of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Priti Gupta at the ship building facility.
The state of the art ship which measures 105.7 m in length and 13.6 m in width, features a wide range of facilities including a helipad for convenient landing of a helicopter. It also possesses the displacement capacity of 2350 tons. Besides the AOPV offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for 18 officers and 100 sailors. Befittingly, the vessel has an endurance of 4,500 nautical miles in terms of carrying out its surveillance operations.
A SLN delegation headed by the Commander Northern Naval Area,Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva was also present on this significant occasion.
The unslipping of the ship from the Erection Bay at the Goa Shipyard Ltd, got off the ground on 15th December 2016 under the patronage of the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India, Her Excellency Chitranganee Wagiswara.
