President agrees to form an all party Government

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The President has informed party leaders in the government in writing that he agrees in principle as the executive president to form an all party government with the participation of all political parties represented in Parliament as a solution to the current crisis.

Accordingly, a special discussion will be held at the President’s house next Friday morning for the 1st round of discussions on the structure of the all party government to be formed, the persons who will be given responsibilities and the duration following the resignation of the current Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

Leaders of parties that represented the ruling party in Parliament after the 2020 General Elections and party leaders who are currently independent in parliament have also been invited.

The letter from the President further states that the chief prelates of the 3 chapters, the Cardinal, a number of political parties and public organizations requested to form an all party government with the participation of all the political parties represented in Parliament as a solution to the current social and economic crisis in the country.

Meanwhile, a special meeting between the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Independent Parliamentary Group will be held tonight regarding future political activities.

It is reported that further discussions will be held regarding some issues that have not been agreed upon at present.
