21A to be presented to the Cabinet today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The draft of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be presented to the cabinet today, on Monday, April 25. The cabinet meeting is to be chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This meeting is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Secretariat at 5 PM where civilians have been holding protests against the President for the past 17 days.

According to reports, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa would deliver the related proposal to the Cabinet.

Although the cabinet was sworn in on April 18, this is the first time that the cabinet is meeting. However, the gazette notification describing the scopes, priorities, associated institutions, and legal frameworks of each ministry of the new cabinet is likely to be announced today.

The 21st Amendment to the Constitution is set to be submitted, with the goal of limiting the presidential powers granted by the 20th Amendment.

Meanwhile, it is stated that the Speaker has handed over to the Prime Minister, the suggestions given by the other parties in Parliament about the 21st Amendment to the Constitution.

The proposals are to be submitted to the cabinet as well.
