Railway operators to withdraw from overtime duties tomorrow

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union says it will withdraw from overtime duties tomorrow, in order to resolve several concerns including the increase of rail fares.

Chief Secretary Indika Dodangoda said more commuters are using trains with the increase in bus fares adding they are taking steps to prevent a large number of commuters from using trains.

He said after trains arrive in Colombo in the morning tomorrow they will not be able to return, and will only return the next morning.

Dodangoda requested commuters to understand that the trade union action is being launched against the incompetent management.

He said they see no other option to resolve the concerns apart from launching trade union action, under the prevailing situation in the country.
