SLFP considering contesting elections independently

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has received a proposal to contest future elections independently and not under the ticket of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

A SLFP party organisers meeting was held yesterday under the patronage of SLFP Chairman former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Former President Sirisena stated that the proposal will be discussed at a meeting of the SLFP Central Committee and the party politburo in order to reach a policy decision.

Senior Vice Chairman of the SLFP Rohana Luxman Piyadasa said seat organisers questioned at the end of yesterday’s meeting if the SLFP will continue to contest under the SLPP ticket amidst the prevalent issues in the country and other concerns that have arisen.

He added former President Sirisena questioned the seat organisers of their opinion to which they responded that they should contest independently.

The party Chairman accordingly responded that they will consider all opinions and reach a decision.
