Tamil Nadu insists on release of boats in Sri Lanka

(UDHAYAM, CHENNAI) – The Tamil Nadu Government is demanding the release of the fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.

Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar reiterated that 20 fishermen and 118 fishing boats from Tamil Nadu must be released from Sri Lankan custody, The Hindu reported.

He raised this issue at a meeting held in Delhi where all coastal States put forth their comments on the Draft National Policy on Marine Fisheries 2016.

Minister Jayakumar pointed to the State Government’s stand on the traditional fishing rights in the Palk Bay.
