Basil to travel to India this week

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has announced that he would be making an official visit to India on Feb 25 where he is scheduled to meet with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitaraman and S. Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs (MEA).

S.R Attygalle, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance is also to accompany Basil on his visit to New Delhi.

During the virtual meeting which took place in January between S. Jaishankar and Basil Rajapaksa, the Indian MEA stressed that India would be Sri Lanka’s trusted partner. He also said that India was focusing on investing in projects that could strengthen the Sri Lankan economy.

The two premiers had also discussed the transfer of the $ 500 million credit facility for fuel purchases and a $ 1 billion loan for Sri Lanka to procure essential commodities.
