Patrick Stewart on “Doctor Strange 2” talk

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The recent Superbowl-launched trailer for Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

The recent Superbowl-launched trailer for Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” got a lot of people talking and much of that conversation was about one scene and one line of dialogue.

Specifically, a scene in the trailer sees a handcuffed Strange brought before a tribunal of some sort populated by figures in silhouette. Then one of them seems to speak and it’s quite clearly actor Patrick Stewart.

This immediately led to speculation that Stewart was reprising his Professor Charles Xavier role from the “X-Men” films with the character a part of the Marvel Comics team the Illuminati – a fictional secret society of which Xavier, Strange, Tony Stark, Reed Richards, the Inhuman Black Bolt and Namor The Sub-Mariner are a part. The internet being the internet continued down the rabbit hole of theories with another being Tom Cruise showing up as an alternate form of Tony Stark.

Stewart himself however is amusingly playing coy, not confirming or denying the report after he was asked, recently about that trailer and if he’s going to show up as Professor X in the ‘Strange’ sequel.

He replied, “You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”

Of course, in the wake of the months of denials by actor Andrew Garfield about what turned out to be correct rumors of his appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” no matter what denials actors may offer about Marvel roles these days – they won’t be believed.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” arrives in theaters on May 6th.
