(UTV | COLOMBO) – The number of daily tourist arrivals has increased considerably. Accordingly, the highest number of tourist arrivals up to February 12 this year was recorded last Saturday.
The number of tourists arriving in the country on that day (February 12) was 4,677.
The highest number of tourists visiting the country in a single day last year was recorded on December 25.
The number of tourists who arrived in the country on that day was 4,829, according to the Tourism Development Authority.
The number of tourist arrivals in the country during the first 12 days of this year is 39,621. In terms of daily arrivals, 4776 tourists arrived on February 12 and 4087 on February 5.
According to Tourism Development Authority statistics, nearly 3,000 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka daily during this period. Most tourists visiting Sri Lanka are from European countries.
Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that this is due to the special promotion programmes implemented by the Government to attract tourists from European countries. Airlines in countries such as France and Russia have commenced direct flights to Sri Lanka resulting in an increase in tourist arrivals.
