(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Court of Appeal today set dates to consider the writ petition filed by former Prime Minister and leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe, calling for the implementation of the recommendations tabled against him by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization to be suspended.
Accordingly, the Appeal Court announced that the writ petition will be considered on the 30th of March.
The order was issued by a bench comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, Lafar Thahir, and DM Samarakoon. The bench considered a request by the attorneys representing the petitioner and determined dates to consider the petition.
The former Premier is seeking an order to nullify recommendations issued against him by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Political Vengeance.
The UNP leader also requests the Court of Appeal to issue an interim injunction, preventing the implementation of the recommendations until a verdict is announced after the hearing of the petition.
Ranil Wickremesinghe in the petition claims the Commission did not file any charge sheet against him during investigations and that he was not adequately questioned by the Commission.
The former Premier in the petition pointed out that cases filed against individuals on complaints lodged by the Anti-Corruption Secretariat were filed by reputable state agencies such as the Attorney General’s Department and the Bribery Commission.
