CEB says power cuts maybe experienced today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board says certain parts of the country may experience power cuts during the day today.

The CEB attributed the power cuts to a malfunction of a power generator at the Kelanithissa Power Plant.

Power disruptions were experienced in several areas including Kotte, Maharagama and Nugegoda last night, due to a generator malfunctioning.

The CEB said 135 megawatts are not added to the national power grid due to the malfunction.

Therefore, the CEB claimed that power cuts will be enforced in certain parts of the country today, in line with the increasing daily demand.

The Electricity Board also said issues will arise in thermal-powered generators due to the country being unable to import fuel, as a result of the dollar crisis.

The CEB noted hydropower generation is decreasing due to less rainfall experienced in the country.
