(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery complex will be closed again from tomorrow (03).
This is due to the difficulties that have arisen in purchasing crude oil in the face of that foreign exchange crisis.
The Ministry of Energy further stated that there will be no fuel shortage in the country even if the oil refinery is temporarily closed.
The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery, which refines 6,500 metric tons of crude oil daily, closed on 15 November last year due to the inability to supply crude oil due to the dollar crisis and reopened on 7 December after 22 days.
Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila addressing a media briefing in Colombo stated that the oil refinery which will be closed tomorrow may be reopened by the end of this month.
