Power cuts likely to be imposed after Jan 15th

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka says it is likely that power cuts will be imposed across the country after the 15th of January.

MP Ranawaka said power cuts will be imposed since the stocks of oil in storages of the Ceylon Electricity Board have reduced to 21,200MT and due to the closure of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery.

In a statement, the Parliamentarian said due to the shortage of crude oil, the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will have to be closed once again in the near future.

MP Ranawaka said at present, power cuts are being imposed for 45 minutes daily in several areas in the country without prior announcement.

He said the move is a violation of the fundamental rights of the people and also illegal.
