(UTV | COLOMBO) – Tuk operators propose increasing minimum charge for a hire to Rs.60
The all island three wheel drivers’ and owners’ association says, three-wheeler fares will have to be increased following the decision by the government to increase domestic fuel prices. The Chairman of the Association, Sudil Jayaruk said they decided to increase the current fare by Rs. 10 per kilometre. Jayaruk said they are no longer able to carry out their livelihood. He said this was a result of maintaining the same charges for almost a decade adding the increase in fuel prices further burdened them.
Sudil Jayaruk said they have no other choice but to increase charges as the government has not held any discussion pertaining to provide relief nor have, they had shown any signs of consideration. The Chairman of the Association said they will have to increase the charge, minimum for a hire to Rs.60 while increasing the charge for the second kilometre to Rs.50. Jayaruk said they will have to compare the charges as the consumers too will be burdened. He said prices of all equipment including tyres and oil have also been increased. Sudil Jayaruk said however the government can intervene and stop the increase in three-wheeler fares.
