No plans to lockdown the country during festive period

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says there is no necessity to lock down the country during the upcoming festive period, due to the coronavirus situation.

Speaking to media, Minister Rambukwella however reiterated the importance of public adhering to health guidelines.

The Minister said restrictions have been further relaxed in recent days since the economy and the country need to function.

He said there were shortcomings in the vaccination process initially but it has been rectified.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the easiest option is to close the country but it will have a huge burden on the people.

He said therefore they will not impose lockdowns.

The Health Minister said the public should learn to adapt to new conditions adding if all citizens fulfil their duties, then the country can overcome the COVID-19 challenge.
