Won’t summon Sisira Mendis as witness in Easter attacks case-AG

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Attorney General today informed the Permanent High Court-at-Bar that former Chief of National Intelligence Sisira Mendis will not be summoned as the third witness in the case against former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando, over failing to take action to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The Attorney General informed Court of the decision when the case was taken up before a three-member High Court bench comprising judges Namal Balalle, Aditya Patabendige and Mohamed Irshadeen today.

The Attorney General requested Court to issue an order to the Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer to inquire into the health condition of former Chief of National Intelligence Sisira Mendis and submit a report to court, prior to summoning him as a witness.

The case will be taken up for consideration once again on the 18th of January.
