Approval granted issue birth certificates with an ID number

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Cabinet approval has been granted by the Department of the Registrar General to issue birth certificates with identification number.

Accordingly, an identity number will be issued in future issuance of new birth certificates.

That identification number will be used to process the National Identity Card, which will facilitate access to public and private sector services in activities from birth to death.

Previously, the Department of Registration of Persons was empowered to assign identification numbers and henceforth the Registrar’s Department would also be authorized to do so.
