(UTV | COLOMBO) – Celebrated Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu (“Shoplifters,” “Like Father, Like Son”) is reportedly set to develop multiple projects for Netflix.
Kore-eda is reportedly at work developing both a big-budget film which he will direct, and a drama series on which he will both serve as showrunner and direct some episodes. Other episodes will employ young upcoming directors.
The deal also helps Netflix’s current goal of increasing its level of live-action Japanese content, especially in terms of feature films. In a video message at the Netflix Japan Festival 2021 showcase, Kore-eda says the scale of the film will be different from the films he’s done before. He also says the series he’s doing simply could not be realized without Netflix’s help.
