(UTV | COLOMBO) – Unions say although they will stage a protest campaign tomorrow over the decision to handover shares of the Yugadanavi Power Plant to an American firm, they will ensure uninterrupted power supply across the country.
Convener of the Ceylon Electricity Board Employees’ Union Ranjan Jayalal said however they have suspicions that the government may inconvenience the public by disconnecting the power supply tomorrow while they are staging a protest.
He said they are only staging a protest against the government and not a strike.
Ranjan Jayalal said they have notified civil society groups, the clergy and other intellectuals regarding the reason behind the protest and the negative impact the agreement will have on the country.
He said they also need the support of the general public to pressurize the government and cancel the agreement.
Ranjan Jayalal stressed that they are not intending on inconveniencing the people but warned that they will intensify the protest campaign if the agreement is not scrapped.
