(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed his appreciation for the continued support extended by China for the economic revival of the country.
During a discussion with the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong at the Temple Trees yesterday, the Prime Minister thanked the Chinese government for its support to Sri Lanka in mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic and for making the COVID-vaccination programme a success.
Ambassador Zhenhong commended the success of the vaccination programme in Sri Lanka and expressed his confidence that China will continue to support the programme.
He also said China has been providing medical supplies, vaccines and financial assistance to Sri Lanka from the very beginning to overcome the pandemic.
Issuing a statement, the Office of the Prime Minister said the Chinese Ambassador stated that the 10 billion Yuan Bilateral Currency Swap Agreement between the People’s Bank of China and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka will help boost confidence in the Lankan economy.
Ambassador Zhenhong also expressed confidence that 2022 would be an important year in Sri Lanka-China bilateral relations, marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Ceylon-China Rubber-Rice Pact.
