Teachers’ & Principals’ strike continues

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Following a discussion, the Teachers’ and Principals’ unions have decided to continue the strike that was launched by withdrawing from online academic activities.

It is reported that 31 trade unions engaged in the strike joined the discussion which was held at 10:00 a.m. today (13).

The teachers’ and principals’ unions who have been engaged in a strike by withdrawing from online teaching activities held a discussion with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Temple Trees yesterday over the salary anomalies issue.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has informed the trade unions that steps will be taken to resolve the salary anomaly in two stages.

According to the solution proposed by the Committee of Ministers appointed to look into the issue of salary anomalies, the final solution of the government was to divide the amount to be added to the salaries of teachers’ principals into three in January 2022 and to give the remaining two parts at once in January 2023.

But the unions have called for immediate action to eliminate the disparity.
