Plans underway to re-open the country on Friday

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva says plans are being formulated to reopen the country at 4am on Friday, the 1st of October.

Speaking to media in Kandy, the Army Commander said he informed the Director General of Health Services to provide necessary recommendations targeting various sectors including public transport services.

He added all Ministries have also been informed to formulate necessary guidelines for the public.

He noted therefore the President will take steps to announce the decision regarding whether or not quarantine curfew will be extended beyond the 1st of October within the next two days.

General Shavendra Silva said no guidelines have been issued stating that individuals who have not received a COVID-19 cannot enter public places.

The Army Commander said over a month ago officials stated a law in this regard will be introduced, adding however the matter will be considered in future.

He added as a percentage nearly all persons over the age of 30 have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, apart from a minority.
