(UTV | COLOMBO) – According to the latest sequencing data from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, the number of confirmed Delta variant cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 292.
They further noted that there is a rapid spread is in Colombo.
A recent study conducted by the Department of Allergy Immunology and Surgical Biology at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura has revealed that the COVID Delta variant is 100% prevalent in the city of Colombo.
The test report also states that the Delta variant is spreading beyond the Alpha variety in other parts of the island.
The research team, led by Prof. Neelika Malavige and Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, further revealed that there may be a new super Delta variant emerging in Sri Lanka.
