Programme to reduce sugar prices to be implemented

(UTV | COLOMBO) – State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection, Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated that a programme to reduce the price of sugar will be implemented from next week.

Nihal Seneviratne, Vice President of the Sugar Importers Association, stated yesterday that the price of sugar cannot be reduced.

He also revealed that at the moment he only has enough sugar for two or three weeks.

There is a heated debate regarding the price of sugar in the country, due to the increase in the price of a kilo of sugar by more than Rs 100 in a few weeks.
