Ban on shopping bags, lunch sheets banned from 01 August

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the use, as well as the production and distribution of non-biodegradable lunch sheets made of polythene, will be banned from 01 August

The Minister further stated that a Cabinet paper will be signed today (12) to ban the use of eight other types of polythene and plastic products.

Accordingly, single-use straws, stirrers, spoons, forks, yoghurt spoons and knives made from single-use plastic, low-volume shopping bags, plastic hopper trays, polythene-packed incense sticks, plastic garlands and plastic cups are included in the new list of products.
