(UTV | COLOMBO) – 6’7″ actor Javier Botet has been cast as Dracula in Amblin Partners’ long-gestating seafaring horror-thriller “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” which is finally moving towards filming.
The story is inspired by a section of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” novel in which a Russian schooner vessel named after the Greek goddess transports Dracula’s coffin from Carpathia to London.
The vampire picks off the crew one-by-one along the way until the ship washes up ashore in England with one raving-mad survivor. This will center its story around that journey.
David Dastmalchian (“The Suicide Squad”), Liam Cunningham (“Game of Thrones”) and Aisling Franciosi (“The Nightingale”) have also been cast as the ship’s first mate, captain and a stowaway respectively.
They join the previously cast Corey Hawkins (“In the Heights,” “24”). Also onboard are Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, Martin Furulund, and Chris Walley.
Zak Olkewicz (“Fear Street,” “Bullet Train”) penned the most recent draft of the script. Andre Ovredal (“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”) directs the project which Bradley Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer will produce.
Shooting kicks off this week in Berlin and later Malta.
