GMOA demands vaccination be expedited

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) stated the COVID-vaccination process has been updated and the vaccines used in Sri Lanka are of a high standard.

GMOA Executive Committee Member Dr. Prasad Colombage said more staff should be deployed for the vaccination process covering all parts of the country soon.

He said Health Staff and the public should follow health guidelines as the new variant of COVID-19 is more contagious than the others.

Dr. Colombage stressed the importance of strictly following health guidelines as a patient develops the symptoms 5-days after contracting the Virus. During this time, he can spread the Virus to many persons one encounters, he said.

He said that several medical associations including the GMOA, Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), and Specialist Doctors’ Association have in a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stressed the need of imposing travel restrictions in view of the present situation of the pandemic. He also said that this letter has emphasised travel restrictions should be imposed in a scientific way.
