Town campaigns for “Eurovision” song Oscar

In the feel-good story of the week, the entire Icelandic town of Husavik is campaigning to get behind Netflix’s “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” to score a Best Original Song nomination at this year’s Academy Awards.

The Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams-led film features a number of original tracks sung by the various actors from Dan Stevens’ “Lion of Love,” to the very meme-able “Ja Ja Ding Dong”.

However, it’s the power ballad McAdams sings in the finale, a song that would fit into any past Eurovision contest and is dedicated to the beauty of the character’s hometown of Husavik, that has gotten the locals engaged.

They’ve teamed up for a video that was posted to the EurovisionMuseum YouTube channel earlier this week and can be seen below along with the song in the film itself.

The song has made the Oscar shortlist for the Best Original Song Oscar and we’ll know if it made it when the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards are announced on March 15th.
