(UTV | COLOMBO) – Reviews are in for Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” the upcoming spin-off game to PS4’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man” which also serves as one of the launch titles for next week’s PlayStation 5.
On Metacritic, the game has pulled in 85/100 from 58 reviews with none of them are classified as negative (and only very few mixed). The more game-centric outlets praised it the most while the more generic newspapers and entertainment blogs were slightly less impressed.
That number is only two below the 87/100 the original game scored and became one of the most celebrated titles of the PS4 platform. Checking a sampling of outlets, the game is almost uniformly scoring 8s and 9s out of 10.
Compared with other titles from this year its behind obvious GOTY contenders like “The Last of Us Part II” and “Half-Life Alyx” (93/100); “Microsoft Flight Simulator,” “Crusader Kings III” and “Spelunky 2” (91/100); “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” (90/100);”Ori and the Will of the Wisps,” “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2” and “Doom Eternal” (88/100); and the “Final Fantasy VII” Remake (87/100).
However it’s on par with the likes of “Ghost of Tsushima,””Yakuza: Like a Dragon,” “Wasteland 3,” “Huntdown,” “Nioh 2,” “Desperados III,” and “Streets of Rage 4” all in the mid 80s range.
Reviews confirm the game boasts two modes – Quality (4K + 30FPS + RayTracing & Extra FX) and Performance (4K + 60FPS + No RayTracing & Extra FX) – though several reviewers have pleaded for them to offer a third mode that would drop the resolution but allow the keeping of both the high frame rate and ray tracing (1080p + 60FPS + RayTracing & Extra FX).
