New iPhones film Dolby Vision in real time

Apple unveiled its annual iPhone line-up refresh this morning with four new 5G models joining the range, two of which are ‘Pro’ models.

Those models boast a new feature that filmmakers will find very useful – offering the world’s first end-to-end Dolby Vision video experience with users able record, playback and edit video in 10-bit Dolby Vision HDR at up to 60fps and at 4K – all in real time.

Dolby Vision grading is processed live and sustained during editing, and can be played back on the phone’s Super Retina XDR display or AirPlay-ed to external devices.

“Children of Men” and “The Revenant” cinematographer Emmanuel ‘Chivo’ Lubezki filmed a brief short for the keynote using the iPhone 12 Pro which can be found at the Apple.com website.
