US envoy calls on Justice Minister

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz met Justice Minister President Counsel Ali Sabry yesterday at the Minister’s office and discussed the role of the judiciary and its future plans as well as the US role and support in achieving those endeavours.

The discussions also focused on the accumulation of cases in various courts in Sri Lanka. They also discussed overcrowding in prisons and related issues.

The Justice Minister mentioned that at the prisons were filled beyond its capacity and there has been a long felt need to resolve the issue. They also spoke of training of judges, judicial and arbitration proceedings. Attorney at law Priyantha Mayadunna the Secretary to the Justice Ministry and Attorney-at-law Janaka Ranatunga.
