UTV | COLOMBO – Former State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake says persons responsible for the demolition of the 13th Century ‘Kings Court’ building should be brought to book regardless of rank and distinction.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna office today, Wickramanayake said legal action is essential.
He noted the Prime Minister has appointed a committee to investigate and report on the matter, adding it remains to be seen as to what the committee report entails.
However he said it would be better to go beyond this committee.
Wickramanayake said if this happened by an ordinary citizen, legally, steps should be taken.
He noted that the two sides are making different statements, explaining that some say the building was a restaurant, while others claim that permission was granted for alcohol to be sold at the site several years ago as well.
He therefore stressed that the truth must be revealed and the government must intervene and take action.
The former State Minister said he believes necessary steps have been taken while adding more information will be uncovered in future.
