Court rejects request by 99 suspended UNPers

UTV | COLOMBO -The Civil Appeal High Court of the Western Province has dismissed a petition filed by the General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Former Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara in relation to the suspension of the United National Party membership of 99 individuals.

Former Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara had challenged the decision by the Colombo District Court to dismiss a request to issue an injunction order against the move by the Working Committee of the United National Party to suspend the membership of 99 individuals who sought nominations from other political parties.

The Former MP through his petition at the Civil Appeal High Court was seeking an injunction order against the UNP Working Committee’s decision.

However, a bench comprising of Judges Sampath Abeykoon and Mohamed Lafir dismissed the request.

Court also ordered Former Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara to pay court charges amounting to Rs.25,000 to the UNP General Secretary and other defendants cited in the petition.
