Kandy Esala Perahera season begins

UTV | COLOMBO -The Kandy Esala Perahera season began this morning with the ‘Kap’ planting ceremony being carried-out at the four Devales in Kandy.

The traditional ‘Kap’ planting ceremony was held at the auspicious time of 2.26am with the participation of the Diyawadana Nilames of the four Devales.

The first ‘Kumbal perahera’ will parade the streets of Kandy on Saturday while the ‘Randoli Perahera’ will commence on the 30th of July.

The final ‘Randoli Perahera’ will parade the streets on the 3rd of August while the Kandy Perahera will conclude on the 4th of August with the water cutting ceremony.

This year’s historic Kandy Esala Festival, will be held without spectators due to the COVID-19 risk.
