UTV | COLOMBO – Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Sajith Premadasa has questioned the government over the legal steps that will be taken against those responsible for the demolition of the 13th Century historic building in Kurunegala.
Speaking at a rally in Nochchiyagama Premadasa said the Mayor of the Kurunegala Municipal Council should be removed from his post if the government claims it is patriotic and protects culture.
He said the government that demolished places of historical importance are speaking of oneness, patriotism and culture, terming such actions as politically deceiving.
Premadasa added the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will protect all historical and cultural places and artefacts.
He called on the Prime Minister to remove the Mayor of Kurunegala who allowed the demolition to take place from his post.
Premadasa claimed a government led by them, will protect the country’s culture and history.
