‘Opposition is using COVID-19 as a tool’

UTV | COLOMBO – Former State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura says the Opposition is attempting to use the recent spike in coronavirus cases as a tool to avoid defeat at the General Election.

Speaking at a media briefing in Embilipitiya Wakkumbura said the Opposition’s defeat is imminent.

The Former State Minister urged all citizens to be patient and follow social distancing guidelines as the coronavirus has started spreading again.

He reiterated there is a group of corrupt politicians who were pleased with the present situation and added that the Opposition is expecting the virus to spread further.

Wakkumbura noted the Opposition wants to avoid their expected fate at the election on the 5th of August and extend their agendas.

Janaka Wakkumbura guaranteed that the government’s main objective was to protect the people from the coronavirus.

He stressed the government will not be distracted by other issues, but will continue to look for a solution.

The Former State Minister claimed the United National Party and other opposition parties want to reimpose lockdown, as they can’t get people to show up for rallies.
