UTV | COLOMBO – Former Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatileka claims 95% of supporters of the United National Party have pledged support to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
Addressing a rally in Galle yesterday Karunatileka said a party’s existence does not depend on a symbol but its conscience.
He said many people who were members of the party for many years were under the impression that the party was made up of the colour, the symbol or the building, adding however they have now realised that the conscience of the party’s supporters is where the party truly lies.
He said a party’s lifetime is determined by the conscience of its party members.
Karunatileka stressed that value lies where the loyalty of the supporters are.
He noted that even the communist party has a head office built on expensive land in Colombo, adding however that the people’s hearts are not there.
He lamented that United National Party has fallen this low, claiming that the UNP is now bankrupt.
