(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says the then opposition, that claimed the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement will be torn up, should now do exactly as they claimed.
Speaking at a media briefing Karunanayake said the government must make an official statement over its stance on the MCC.
He explained that talks on the MCC agreement commenced during 2005 and 2006, adding the government that began the agreement attempted to provide it to the people.
He stressed that the issue was not one that would drain the countries resources or create conflict among citizens, charging that fear mongering over the agreement was rife.
He however stressed that the same factions who claimed the MCC pact was a major issue are now changing their stance when in power.
Karunanayake therefore urged the government to resolve the conflict immediately and decide if the pact is to be scrapped or signed.
