(UTV | COLOMBO) – While claiming that the government was delaying to install the three gantry cranes at the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port, as a part of the plan to sell it to India, the National Peoples’ Power (NPP) today urged the government to stop such moves.
NPP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told at a news conference that the government had to pay Rs.100 million as demurrage for not installing the gantry cranes anchored at the port.
“Three gantry cranes were purchased at a massive cost. Now, they are anchored at the Colombo Port without being installed. The government is delaying the installation as it is planning to sell the Eastern jetty to India. Three employees of the port have launched a strike against this move,” he said and added that the NPP would extend its fullest support to the struggle to safeguard the port.
