“Despite minor set back UNP will return to power” – Ashu Marasinghe

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe says despite a minor setback, the United National Party will return to governing power in the near future.

Speaking to media in Kandy yesterday after calling on the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, Former MP Marasinghe said only the UNP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna are competing to gain a Parliamentary majority at the General Election.

He said the UNP is the biggest party in the country that has rendered yeomen service to the people and therefore claimed that the public will continue to rally around the UNP.

Former Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe also claimed that his faction after the General Election is expecting the support of several persons who are contesting from other political groups.

He is of the view that the UNP cannot be destroyed by any faction, claiming that previous attempts were also foiled by the people of the country who are supportive of the party.

Commenting on the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement, Former MP Ashu Marasinghe said the present administration is continuing to circulate misinformation in a bid to deceive the public.

He said even the latest attempt to distract the people through a report on the MCC agreement was foiled by the Embassy of the United States in Colombo.

Former MP Marasinghe said the government should be honest to the voters and take forward progressive policies.
