Xi praises SL’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts

(UTV | COLOMBO) – China has conveyed President Xi’ Jinping’s deep appreciation of Sri Lanka’s successful efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Acting Ambassador for China Hu Wei yesterday met with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.

The President’s Media Division said the Chinese government also sent a consignment of medical supplies to help Sri Lanka’s continuous fight against coronavirus.

President Rajapaksa had thanked President Xi and the people and companies of China for their unstinted support during difficult weeks as Sri Lanka battled with the pandemic.

The Chinese delegation noted that both Sri Lanka and China followed similar tracking systems to identify potential COVID-19 patients.

The PMD said the two countries have shown immense cooperation in supporting each other during the global pandemic.

Appraising the latest situation in Beijing, the delegation noted that although close to 100 new cases were reported, the situation has been brought under control.

The two parties discussed a range of other topics during the meeting, while the main focus was the tea auction and how best to promote Sri Lankan tea, in China.

The talks included Chinese investments in Sri Lanka and improving financial cooperation between the two countries.
